About the symposium

Scope of the symposium:

Bees and other pollinators are reportedly declining in several regions of the world. Pesticides have been suggested as one of many factors responsible for this decline. Recent scientific findings on the exposure and effects of certain plant protection products (PPPs) on pollinators have resulted in updates in the European guidance document on risk assessment for regulatory purposes. New risk assessment tools need to be developed to implement this new guidance. New testing methodologies, risk mitigation measures, monitoring programmes and general surveys will play important roles in controlling the risks associated with future use of these PPPs.

The symposium will provide guidance to risk assessors and scientists involved in the development of risk assessment tools, and provide in-depth information on the following topics:

  • Pollinators in Agricultural Crops
  • Protection Goals and Regulatory Framework
  • Methods for Risk Assessment
  • Exposure Estimates
  • Risk Mitigation
